Context

what has been and where we want to go

Goals

A redesign of the Watch tab with live TV as the focus with a more modern display for selection of VOD content has long been a desire of product and editorial

Current experience

Currently the Watch tab experience has a display primarily comprised of vertical arrangements of VOD trays with the user being able to swipe horizontally between sections and vertically between content

This is not an ideal experience as it makes navigation of content more difficult, allows the user to see less content on screen, and is not fully supported accessibility-wise by screen readers

Foundations

and setting the project and ourselves up for success

Leverage existing patterns

Being that we just created a Live TV package, we can now utilize it as the source for live TV on the Watch tab

We will also utilize our Medium Promo package and create a Small Promo package from it to serve as a more content-dense, modern way to select VOD clips

User Flow

and the experience step by step

As a user, I want to find all video content for NBC News and MSNBC to keep up with shows and live TV

I navigate to the Watch tab in NBC News
Tap on Live TV to watch the stream in full screen
Or tap on any VOD clip to start watching it in a playlist view

Next Steps

and envisioning the future

Our overall vision and end goals are...

1. Being able to have native live TV streaming in our apps to be able to better and more immersively tell stories as they break live
2. To redesign the Watch tab in 2 steps to modernize and expand it with more content

Update the Watch Tab to a Live TV Hub
